This Year's Model Updates:

The Monte Carlo receives significant revisions for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the car's styling with new front-end styling and taillights. Inside, the Monte Carlo benefits from a redesigned instrument panel, improved audio systems, more comfortable seats and standard front side airbags. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Chevy car: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Spacious interior, low sticker price, powerful engine choices.
Cons:
  • Vague steering detracts from handling, off-the-line torque steer in the SS.

The car has been a dream to own. No maintance problems. Makes me wonder why anyone would buy Japanese. 31 mpg on the road overall average 26 mpg.

I love my car and that is after nearly 2 years of mostly freeway miles. I get 27 there and average 19 mpg for a 303 hp V8. My Z28 had 315 and the insurance is half as much. The radio system is awesome. Buy the car loaded if you can. The chromatic mirrors and leather seats make for an enjoyable experience. This car is a highway interceptor. It outruns most vehicles on the freeway with ease. It outhandles my 02 Z28 in the curves. Get one while they are still around.

If you like power, style and turning heads on the road, this is your car. I have the laser blue metalic with the silvertone and on a clear sunny day I get countless compliments on my car. 303 horses gives you the power when needed, but the ride is smooth.

I am very disappointed with my 2006 Monte Carlo purchase. The car is very uncomfortable, and the interior is very plain. My previous car was a 1998 Monte Carlo, and the interior in that model is much more elegant, and the seats were comfortable, unlike the 2006 model. I would never buy another Monte Carlo again, or a Chevy. There is much more I do not like about the car, but it’s too much to type.

  • Stay away from this car - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Car would not start 2 times, had it towed. Constant light surging, even with cruise on. Cold starts result in hesitation on take off, even once backfiring. The dealer naturally says they cannot duplicate these driveability issues. Big mistake getting this car, it will be gone soon. Oh, the car is 3 months old.

  • A lot better than past years! - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Ive had a 2002 Monte and after I had a lot of stuff go wrong with it, I looked into getting a new car. I narrowed my choices to 3 cars. Mustang, Monte and Charger. Mustang way too small. Charger has more power. But only 2/10 of a sec quicker. Plus doesnt have some of the features that I like. The Monte has everything but a DVD nav system. Cell phone, on star, DOD (charger doesnt let you know when its active or not.) Remote start. I think alot of people need to rethink the GMs lineup. There cars have power not stuck at 200 HP like in the past. This car all around better then 2000-2005 Monte year. MPG for me is around 15.8. Sorry people, you have to pay for power.

  • Best Car on the Road - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I dont know how many times at the pump or on the road somebody had flagged me down and said good car. This car is fast and handles well. For a two door is quite spacious. The car has a lot of neat features including remote start, DOD, and OnStar. Mustangs cant really keep up with it. I got the SS model with a few less options like sun roof and leather which made my car a couple grand cheaper and more affordable

Before I bought the car I was considering the Ford Mustang. I am a tall person and the Monte Carlo fit my bill better plus the front wheel drive is better than the rear wheel drive on the Mustang. So far Ive driven the car 700 miles and have been averaging 20.7 to 21 miles per gallon overall. Not bad for a v8. I also like the comfort of the leather seats with the lumbar support. If you have back problems it’s great. The stereo system is excellent, also the remote start is awesome too. Overall Im very happy I bought the Monte Carlo instead.

  • New 2006 Monte Carlo - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This is my third Monte Carlo, the last being a 2003 SS but I did not want a V- 8 nor rear wheel drive as I like the front wheel. New front end looks very sleek. Personally I find the new bucket seats to be a bit too hard and the interior seems more narrow than the 2000 and 2003 Montes I owned. Only have a couple of hundred miles on this one but if the car holds up like the last two Ill be pleased. Low the traction control! Had that on the 2003 SS.

I really like it, but the suspension is a little stiff. I dont know if its because it is new or it has a sports suspension, but I can feel all the bumps in the road. Also, the wind noise is a little bit high for this type of car.
